PTFE (Teflon) is a polymers & elastomers material: covalent chains with secondary (van der waals/h-bond) interactions; amorphous or semi-crystalline.
That bonding is what produces the class-level trade-off you inherit here — low density, low cost, easy mass production, set against low stiffness/strength vs. metals; creep under load.
