Zirconia Y-TZP (3Y)
Transformation-toughened zirconia — the toughest oxide ceramic ('ceramic steel').
Typical properties
Published ranges for the usual condition. Heat treatment, section size and product form move these numbers — a starting point for a search, not design allowables.
Bars show where this material sits against every other entry in the library that quotes the same property; strength scales are logarithmic.

Where it is used
Dental crowns, knives, valves, dies, oxygen sensors.
Processing and joining
Sinter + HIP; beware low-temperature hydrothermal degradation (aging).
Class behaviour
Zirconia Y-TZP (3Y) is a ceramics & glasses material: ionic/covalent bonding; crystalline (oxides, carbides, nitrides) or amorphous (glasses).
That bonding is what produces the class-level trade-off you inherit here — very high hardness and compressive strength, set against brittle — low fracture toughness, sensitive to flaws.
