Sulfur (in nontechnical British English: sulphur) is a chemical element with the symbol S and atomic number 16. It is abundant, multivalent and nonmetallic.

Crystal structure
Solid Sulfur adopts a Face-centered Orthorhombic arrangement, in the Orthorhombic system — axes a ≠ b ≠ c, angles α = β = γ = 90°. Symmetry controls the anisotropy of stiffness and thermal expansion, and the available slip systems set how far the metal deforms before it fractures.
